If your looking for a little dive spot that is true mexican to the heart, this is the place. El Taco Veloz has been written about with excellent reviews in many of the Atlanta Restaurant type publications, and outside of the truly excellent food, the atmosphere is true mexican.
This small hole in the wall restaurant sits right in the middle of the Chamblee / Doraville area which is very heavily populated by Mexicans. They are all very polite, welcoming, and friendly folks. I guess it’s a mix of the neon lighting at night, the many conversations being spoken in spanish, and the majority of the patrons being mexican that adds such a unique true Mexican feel to this small restaurant.
The food is fairly standard Mexican, but does have a very unique flavor and cooking style you will not get at any of the local chain style larger mexican restaurants, and don’t ask for mild sauce, there is none. The only sauce they have will set your mouth on fire. With that said, I had the steak burrito, and the steak was so moist I didn’t even need any sauce on it.
So show your special date that you have some creativity, and hit this neat little spot that will beat out any of the regular mexican style resturants.
The best time to visit this place is in the evening. The entire building is lit up with nice neon lighting that really adds to that feel of being a true unique hole in the wall dive Mexican restaurant.
